The protective lens is the consumable part at the tip of the laser cutting head: it sits first in the path of spatter and particles and protects the optics above it. It wears and is replaced periodically. We deliver it in the exact size for your cutting head.
The protective lens sits at the tip of the cutting head, first in the path of the spatter and particles thrown up from the material, and stops them before they reach the expensive optics inside.
It is a consumable part: it gets dirty and clouds over with time, while the optics above it stay clean.
Why replace it on time
A protective lens costs a few tens of euros. The optics it protects, mounted above it, cost thousands.
As long as the lens is clean and intact, the expensive optics stay protected. If you put off replacing it, the risk passes directly to the expensive part.
What size it comes in
The size of the protective lens depends on the cutting head fitted to your machine. There is no standard size that suits every machine.
Why buy through a dealer
We are the authorised ACME dealer in Romania and deliver genuine parts from stock. We confirm that the lens fits your cutting head.
FAQ
Questions about the Protective lenses
Is the protective lens the same as the focusing lens?
No. The protective lens is flat and does not focus the beam: its job is to protect the optics, not to concentrate the light. The focusing lens and the collimator sit higher up in the cutting head, are chosen according to the focal length and are not changed as often. If the part you take out of the head is curved or comes in a threaded metal housing, it is not the protective lens.
How do I find out what size of protective lens to order?
Measure the old lens with a calliper once it is out of the head: its diameter and thickness are the dimensions it is ordered by. If you no longer have the old lens, the size can be found from the cutting head model, because each head model has its own lens, in its own size.
Can you supply the protective lens for a cutting head bought from another supplier?
Yes. The protective lens depends on the seat in the cutting head fitted to the machine, not on the make of the machine or on the dealer it was bought from. To find the right lens, one of two references is enough: the cutting head model, or the diameter and thickness of the old lens.
Can protective lenses be ordered in larger quantities?
Yes, at volume prices: the manufacturer sets the price of protective lenses according to quantity. The lens is replaced periodically, so we base your quotation on your annual consumption (the number of lenses you replace in a year), and the unit price follows that quantity.
